Women4Biodiversity is powered by a passionate and dedicated team of women from all corners of the globe. We bring together a diverse range of expertise in policy, advocacy, communications and community organizing. Our mission is to amplify the voices of women on the frontlines of biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. Together, we work tirelessly to ensure that women and girl’s rights and perspectives are not only heard but also valued and integrated into global environmental decision-making. Founder and Director

Mrinalini Rai

Mrinalini is an advocate for environmental justice and women's rights and she brings expertise in policy analysis, advocacy, and research on gender, human rights, and environmental governance. Committed to integrating human rights and gender equality into UNCBD decision-making, she values grassroots movements and community voices. Mrinalini champions the rights of the Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, women and girls, and youth in environmental processes, supporting community-led conservation in the global South. She founded Women4Biodiversity to pave way for the inclusion of the voices of women and girls and to enhance cooperation with biodiversity-related agreements. Mrinalini also holds an MA in Social Science and Sustainable Development from Chiang Mai University, Thailand.
Policy Associate

Alejandra Duarte

Alejandra's passion for nature and all its inhabitants led to a lifelong commitment to biodiversity conservation. She actively advocates for the inclusion of women and youth in local and international biodiversity policies, the recognition of their rights, their contributions and the effective participation of these actors in policies, in line with this work she is part of the Global Youth Biodiversity Network, and the Women's Caucus. She holds a BA in Agroforestry Engineering and a MA in Forest Resources Conservation with a focus on Forest Ecology. She has conducted research in tropical dry forests and montane cloud forests. She is also a member of the IUCN Commission on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy and Issues and the World Commission on Protected Areas.
Research and Policy Associate

Meenal Tatpati

Meenal is a researcher with a keen interest in the jurisprudence of forests, the role indigenous and local communities play in their conservation and laws and policies that affect their democratic governance. Through this work she has developed a keen interest in understanding the worldviews of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities leading to the documentation of the worldviews of the Dongria Kondh community and Raika pastoralist women in India. She has also actively engaged in advocacy around Protected Area governance, management and expansion issues. She coordinated the national-level Community Forest Rights Learning and Advocacy Process from 2014-2017 in India; and of the Rangelands and Pastoralism Territories of Life Group within the Indigenous Peoples and Community Conserved Territories and Areas (ICCA) Consortium. She is a member of the IUCN WCPA and WCEL, and Kalpavriksh. Meenal holds a LLB in Law and an MSc degree in Environmental Sciences.
Programme Officer

Shruti Ajit

Shruti's career centers on researching and documenting community-led conservation. Her past work involved challenging exclusive conservation narratives by pushing for inclusive policies and evidence at national and regional level. Notably, she documented Raika Pastoral women's perspectives in Rajasthan and advocated for gender justice and forest rights for IPs & LCs. As an Honorary Member of the Indigenous Peoples and Community Conserved Territories and Areas (ICCA) Consortium, she coordinated global and regional community conservation activities. Shruti also serves as an advisory member of India's Global Youth Biodiversity Network(IYBN), promoting youth engagement in biodiversity conservation. However, her passion extends beyond social and ecological justice intersections as she finds joy in observing wildlife, exploring food history, and seeking inspiring stories. Shruti holds an MA in Development from Azim Premji University and a BA in Journalism and Communication from Manipal University, India.

Sumina Subba

Sumina is a communications professional with more than six years of experience working in both non-profit and profit making sectors. She grew up in a house where books were considered treasures, which ignited her affinity towards words at an early age. A storyteller by heart, she loves to combine her passion for human rights with human-interest stories. Sumina is a former Open Society Foundation / University of Essex Scholar and holds a MA in Human Rights and Cultural Diversity from the University of Essex, UK.

Nonglak Kaeophokha

Ms. Kaeophokha has been working in international development for over 15 years with various NGOs, INGOs and UN Agencies in Thailand. She has a background in Migration and Refugee, Environment, Development and Peace Building. Currently, she works with Spirit in Education Movement (SEM) as the Senior Programme Officer, and is currently based in Bangkok. She also occasionally undertakes independent consulting with various agencies. Ms. Kaeophokha holds a dual-Masters Degree undet the Asian PeaceBuilders Scholarship Programme (APS) which was assisted by the Nippon Foundation.

Duangkamon Donchaum

Ms. Donchaum is a social worker based in Chiang Mai, Thailand. She has experience working with local, national, and international non-governmental organizations for more than a deacde. She has worked in healthcare and other social related issues such as working with People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV), injecting drug users (IDUs), Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community members, women, children, and other marginalized groups. She holds a MA in Sustainable Development from the Social Science Faculty of Chiang Mai University, Thailand.

Pirawan Wongnithisathaporn

Ms. Pirawan Wongnithisathaporn is a Karen Indigenous woman from Chiangmai, Thailand. Currently, she is working with Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact as the environment program officer. She has worked for many years in supporting the advocacy work around the rights of indigenous peoples, and Indigenous Women's rights at the national and international level. She focuses her work on community development and traditional knowledge and engages in different international arenas including biodiversity and climate-related policy spaces.
