Women Shape Biodiversity Futures Workshop

24 – 26 November 2025
Bangkok, Thailand

Women4Biodiversity organised a 3-day capacity-building workshop designed to strengthen women’s leadership and advocacy across South and South-East Asia. This regional workshop was attended by women from 11 diverse countries of Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam. This in-person regional workshop brought together women leaders, practitioners, knowledge holders, community organisers, researchers and advocates who found common ground in their lived experiences while being eager to know more about the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (UN CBD) negotiations and Target 23 of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM-GBF).

This workshop was designed for women’s rights collectives, grassroots groups, youth advocates, and civil society actors working on gender and biodiversity. Through  interactive learning, peer exchanges, and strategy-building sessions, it was designed with the following crucial aspects in mind,

  • To gain skills for high level-advocacy on Target 23 and the Gender Plan of Action, effectively linking them to broader biodiversity goals.
  • To learn practical skills to engage in policy and advocacy processes at national, regional, and global levels.
  • To understand tools and strategies to effectively influence decision-making under the UN CBD with a deeper understanding of essential tools such as National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) and the Online-reporting Tool (ORT).
  • To connect with a vibrant regional peer network of women leaders and advocates shaping gender-responsive biodiversity futures.
