{"id":31425,"date":"2023-04-11T12:12:23","date_gmt":"2023-04-11T10:12:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/women4biodiversity.org\/highlights-nbsaps-and-develop-national-reports-gender-responsively\/"},"modified":"2025-02-14T09:24:44","modified_gmt":"2025-02-14T08:24:44","slug":"highlights-nbsaps-and-develop-national-reports-gender-responsively","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/women4biodiversity.org\/fr\/highlights-nbsaps-and-develop-national-reports-gender-responsively\/","title":{"rendered":"HIGHLIGHTS: How to update NBSAPs and develop national reports gender-responsively?"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A virtual roundtable on gender justice and biodiversity<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TEXT BY AMELIA ARREGUIN<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>In 31 March, the UNCBD Women\u2019s Caucus and the Convention on Biological Diversity hosted a virtual roundtable \u201cHow to update NBSAPs and develop national reports gender-responsively?\u201d with the objective to provide concrete paths to include gender-responsive measures in revising and updating National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs), and to discuss entry points for gender-responsive national reporting in 2026 and 2029.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The session was enriched by the oral presentations of Cicilia Githaiga, UNCBD Women\u2019s Caucus Advisor; Jillian Campell, Head of Monitoring, Review and Reporting at UN Convention on Biological Diversity; Marion Marigo, Capacity Building and Biodiversity Senior Officer at the United Nations Development Programme, and Georgina Catacora-Vargas, Researcher at the Academic Peasant Unit \u00ab\u00a0Tiahuanacu\u00a0\u00bb of the Bolivian Catholic University. UNCBD Women\u2019s Caucus Coordinator Amelia Arreguin moderated the session.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Aiming to discuss which coordinated efforts should be put in place to guarantee women and girls that their rights will be recognized in biodiversity policies, particularly when it comes to NBSAPs and national reports, the event began with some opening remarks from Cicilia Githaiga, Advisor of the UNCBD Women\u2019s Caucus. She highlighted how good rules and sound procedures \u00a0will lead to achievement of the rights of women and girls, and ensure they are engaged in the processes of decision-making, including the implementation of Targets 22 and 23 (stand-alone gender equality target) of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbd.int\/doc\/c\/e6d3\/cd1d\/daf663719a03902a9b116c34\/cop-15-l-25-en.pdf\">the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\u201cWe have to be able to find a way of participating,\u201dGithaiga said. \u201cIf a table is not provided, you have to make your own table.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6058\" src=\"https:\/\/www.women4biodiversity.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Cicilia-1024x591.png\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<figcaption>UNCBD Women\u2019s Caucus Advisor Cicilia Githaiga<\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Considering that one of the eminent responsibilities of all governments after COP15 is to revise and update their NBSAPs aligned with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, Jillian Campell, Head of Monitoring, Review and Reporting at UN Convention on Biological Diversity, discussed could this be done in a gender-responsive manner. She highlighted that this would be possible only through a whole-of-society approach and recognizing women\u2019s collective efforts. She also mentioned that women\u2019s groups and a broader range of actors, under the human rights-based approach, should be involved as crucial\u00a0 considerations for implementation.<br \/><br \/>She added that the challenge, however, remains on how to promote ownership outside of the Ministry of Environment and the traditional CBD stakeholders. I would dare to say it is a really systemic limitation,\u201d she said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>She also highlighted the importance of appropriate regulatory and policy instruments that acknowledge women&rsquo;s roles in biodiversity and securing the realization of their social, economic, cultural and political rights.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6062\" src=\"https:\/\/www.women4biodiversity.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Georgina-1024x527.png\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<figcaption>Georgina Catacora Vargas, Researcher at the Academic Peasant Unit \u00ab\u00a0Tiahuanacu\u00a0\u00bb of the Bolivian Catholic University<\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>By the end of the session, Amelia Arreguin, moderator of the event and coordinator of the UNCBD Women\u2019s Caucus, emphasized the legal commitment that all Parties to the CBD have towards women and girls as stated in CBD\u2019s Decision <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbd.int\/doc\/decisions\/cop-15\/cop-15-dec-06-en.pdf\">15\/6<\/a>, where an enhanced multidimensional approach to planning, monitoring, reporting and review was updated.
