From sewing bags from cloth scraps to reducing plastic pollution in wetlands to channelling water to revive dried-up bodies of water, these women show that when #WomenActforWetlands, great things happen for biodiversity and the community.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>See their stories in the videos below:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1) Saying no to plastic in Vembanad Lake<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>They sew not just cloth bags but also menstrual cloth pads &#8211; the women living around Vembanad Lake in Kerala, India are using creative ways to reduce plastic in the wetland. The organization <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atree.org\/content\/atree-vembanad\">Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment <\/a>has successfully facilitated and capacitated women in the lake\u2019s nearby communities to protect Vembanad Lake and its estuaries.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">https:\/\/youtu.be\/82PhMZh2k_0<\/div>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2) Guardians of the mangroves and ocean<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/barranquillamas20.com\/\">Barranquilla +20<\/a>, a youth-led organization in Colombia is not just leading beach clean-ups but also training youth, including girls, to be guardians of the environment.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">https:\/\/youtu.be\/TAFNEHoKDos<\/div>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3) Reviving dried-up bodies of water<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Can water flow again in barren ponds, and even address water shortages in the community? These women in Bundelkhand region in India show us it can be done. You do what you need to do to restore it now, so it doesn\u2019t get worse.
