The Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning (ONREP), the agency responsible for developing and implementing Thailand’s National Biodiversity Action Plan 2023–2027, co-organised this workshop in collaboration with UNDP Thailand brought together stakeholders and representatives from various ministries in Thailand to build a shared understanding of gender equity in biodiversity contexts and to develop practical, gender-responsive action plans to support the National Biodiversity Action Plan.
Core objectives
- Strengthen the capacity of stakeholders and ministries in gender equality and biodiversity conservation.
- Promote gender-based participation and consideration in biodiversity planning and implementation.
- Gather feedback on gaps and national needs in achieving gender equality within biodiversity frameworks.
Key outcomes
- Preparation of Thailand’s 7th National Report on Biodiversity is progressing on schedule and will be submitted to the CBD Secretariat by 28 February.
- Participants were equipped to access and identify gender considerations in policies at both national and local levels.
- A Gender Action Plan was developed to guide the implementation of gender-responsive biodiversity commitments.
It was a valuable opportunity for Women4Biodiversity to be invited to this consultation. The workshop was facilitated by Laura Cooper Hall and Khun Nissanee Chaiprakobwirya from Chiang Mai University, alongside Mrinalini Rai from Women4Biodiversity.
