Sixth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Minamata Convention on Mercury (COP-6)

The sixth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Minamata Convention on Mercury (COP-6) will convene in Geneva, Switzerland, from 3 November to 7 November 2025.Under the presidency of Osvaldo Álvarez Perez from Chile, the gathering aims to accelerate global efforts to protect human health and the environment from mercury pollution by addressing themes such as the mercury life-cycle, artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM), and waste-management thresholds. Preparatory work has included online sessions and stakeholder engagement throughout 2025, ensuring inclusive input from civil society, Indigenous Peoples, youth and scientific communities.

Key agenda items will include evaluation of the Convention’s effectiveness, review of the financial mechanism (including the Global Environment Facility (GEF) / Specific International Programme), and the adoption of decisions to strengthen implementation support and cross-policy coherence with other agreements.

For the first time, the Women’s Caucus for Minamata Convention on Mercury will participate in COP-6 and will be also be launched in the COP-6 space to a wider audience.
