The UNCBD Women’s Caucus (WC) held an informative webinar last 24 August with its members in preparation for the Fifteenth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP 15) that is set to take place from 7 to 19 December in Montreal, Canada.
The main objective of the webinar was to build a common understanding of this meeting and the sessions that will take place in parallel such as the Tenth Meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol (COP MOP 10) and the Fourth Meeting of the Parties to the Nagoya Protocol (COP MOP 4).
UNCBD WC coordinators Amelia Arreguin and Mrinalini Rai took the members through the basics of the CBD and its Conference of Parties. The group then discussed how the UNCBD WC can actively participate in the process to ensure the full and effective participation of grassroot women, women’s organizations and gender experts on the CBD processes.
Special interest was dedicated to critical topics like human rights and gender equality in the post-2020 GBF, the implementation of the post-2020 Gender Plan of Action and the adoption of Target 22, a stand-alone gender equality target in the post-2020 global biodiversity framework.
The recent informative webinar is part of UNCBD WC’s virtual workshop series in preparation for CBD’s COP 15. The schedule of the sessions can be found here.
